Development of the National Archives and Records Authority in Samoa, by Amela Silipa
In January 2011 the Public Records Act 2011 was passed by the Samoa Legislative Assembly.
September 2013 marked a very important milestone for the National Archives of Samoa; we were officially recognized as a Division of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture with an Assistant Chief Executive Officer/ National Archivist to head the NARA and a staff of 7 to start the Authority.
The National Archives has been given the green light by the Ministry to renovate an old German Building (over 100 years old) plus seven old classrooms for repository and to house the staff.
We are very excited about this development and hope in a few years time we will be able to secure funds to build a bigger archives for Samoa.
