Here are the results of the statistical survey that was undertaken by PARBICA countries at the end of 2006 and the first few months of 2007. The survey was sent to 17 countries and 15 replied. The survey is an excellent benchmark for measuring progress in recordkeeping across the region.

To All PARBICA Members:
Greetings from Aotearoa, New Zealand
I have been doing some work for the ICA on
an archival statistical questionnaire. The focus of the questionnaire is on
archives and good governance. The PARBICA Bureau is supportive of the project.
The PARBICA region will be the first
region to complete the survey and it will also provide the opportunity for the
region to have an international profile in the important area of archival
statistics.
The results will be used by the ICA to
identify their priority work areas and can also be used by PARBICA and its
members. All results will be grouped and individual countries will not be
identified.
The questionnaire has been tested and I
hope will be easy to complete. However, it is quite complex to write questions
that cover current records, archives, electronic records, access, training,
education etc which are meaningful for the situation of every country.
Ben Wauchop who works at Archives New
Zealand will be available to help you complete the survey and to answer any
questions you may have. I am very keen to have everyone complete the
survey as it will be a far more useful resource for the region if everyone
replies.
When the survey has been completed I will
report on the results to the ICA and will also provide them with a copy of the
questionnaire so that the survey can be run in other regions.
The survey will be sent to you in about 4
weeks time and you will have the option of completing it over the internet or
completing a paper copy and sending it back to Archives New Zealand.
Meanwhile, if you have any questions about
the survey could you please contact Ben Wauchop. Ben’s email is Ben.Wauchop@archives.govt.nz
and will be able to answer any questions you may have.
Best wishes
Dianne
